Battle for Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima (19 February–26 March 1945), orOperation Detachment, was a major battle in which the United States fought for and captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese. The U.S. invasion, charged with the mission of capturing the three airfields on Iwo Jima, resulted in some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific Campaign of World War II.

I have attempted to re-create this battle using the Perfect General
Scenario Editor.
It is recommended that you use the Japanese/American unit file
JAPGUnitsx36.bmp. You can download these unit graphics from the
Yahoo Perfect General Group.
Defender
The Japanese forces will have a three (3) staggered
reinforcement areas. The Japanese forces on Iwo Jima had no
ability to get reinforced But I wanted to create pockets of
"hidden" units, that would not otherwise be availble in the
scenario
editor. To this end, the Japanese will get reinforcements ar
turns 4, 7 & 10. On/Near Level One will get three (3) reinforcement
(or "hidden"
units) areas at turn 3, Area around Airstrip #2 will receive three (3)
reinforcement areas at turn 8 and lastly, Hill 390 will get Two (2)
reenforcement areas on turn 10.

Other Conditions
All terrain ridges are restricted to INFANY ONLY. In the northern
end of the Island, there are roads to allow armour units to get to the
upper levels. However, on the southern end, Mt. Surabachi,
offers no method of using armour. This objective must be taken
with infantry only.
There are four (4) locations on the map displaying the Imperial Japanese Battle Flag. The flags can only be
changed to the American Flag by placing an engineer on the
terrain tile and use the "B" command to change the flag. Normal
conditions apply to engineer using this command.
The American/Attacker forces has an additional offshore
capability. There is a ship placed offshore which contains
three(3) places for artillery. Once these pieces are gone (by
counter artillery fire), there will be NO replacements.
There are many "Pill Boxes" on the Island. These structures
offer defensive strenght as well as limiting LOS. These
advantages will be conferred to any force which occupy them.
Entering Mt. Surabachi by the Americans, will trigger and "invasion" of
a Neutral Country. Once "invaded", the Japanese will receive 15
points. The attacker must "invade" Mt. Surabachi to take the
objective.
Victory Points
There are four major victory point regions. In addition, each "Pill Box" will generate victory points.
