Introduction to Galacticards

Galacticards is the title of the upcoming playing card-oriented space strategy game from Killer Bee Software. Galacticards is not a deep and involved strategy game as is Empire Deluxe or The Perfect General. Instead it  is a quick game with turns lasting under a minute. But make no mistake, there is still quite a bit of depth to the decision making that is required to stay on top of the Universe.

In Galacticards, five players start out with a home world, some defensive ground units, and a hand of five cards with which they begin their struggle to become the largest species in space.

A Player Home World and Star

Players must make choices every turn to improve their situation, or defend against possible raids from one of four other players, as well as pirates,  space monsters and aliens. The final objective for each player is to have had the most members of their species throughout the game.

A Card Game

Galacticards is based on a playing card paradigm with the cards representing actions and capabilities of each player. The game is turn based, with players playing at least two cards a turn, and drawing new cards from a partially exposed deck.

The Interface Allows Player To Manipulate Cards And View Systems

There are seven primary types of cards in Galacticards. Each give a player a different opportunity within his space empire. These are:

Exploration Cards - Player must play these cards to explore and expand the universe. These cards will enable them to begin colonies and have access to minerals in their realm, as well as provide natural defenses for a system.

Research Cards - The cards enable players to earn research points, enabling them to store more than just five cards in their hand, so that they will be able to employ the right card at the right time, or save valuable and hard to get cards for later turns.

Mining Cards - These cards allow players to exploit resources to earn mineral points, which have many uses, including payment for construction, turn position bidding and deck manipulation.

Colonization Cards - These cards allow the transportation of ground forces and population to form new colonies or protect existing ones, as well as allow a player to build structures enhancing their planets.

Defense Cards - These cards protect the player against raids and attacks by others and non-player types.

Military Cards - These cards allow the player to conscript his population into a military force, and launch invasions and planetary bombing raids against other players.

Event Cards - These cards add a good deal of unpredictability to your daily life, as they can range from excellent to horrible. You must be prepared for the worst of event or you may find yourself without a home world!

Technical Info

Galacticards will be customizable and and the AI modifiable. Players will be able to add their own custom player graphics sets, and be able to create their own computer player logic.
