Network Play for ED
Ok, here's the scoop:
First, credit goes to the Live ED crew of players on Concentric:
John Rotoloni(ROTO), Mason Reed and Dave Hamric.
Ok, this uses a shareware package called ComT.
Get it here.
ComT is a modem emulator. It is a windows 3.1 program, so it works in
windows 3.1, 95 and NT. Don't know if there is a MAC version. Also,
it may not work with AOL due to the way they do things, I do not know.
I would also recommend you get ICQ. This way you are alerted when your
buddies are online and you can chat, send mail, etc. Nice app.
Look at : http://www.mirabilis.com/
Ok, here is the way to play:
Remote Slave:
- Connect to your ISP.
- Get your IP address (use winipcfg in Win95/NT)
- Get that IP address to the "master" player.
- Start ComT.
- Select a port that IS NOT the port your modem is on.
- Select the enable button in comT.
- Start ED.
- Select Remote Slave in ED.
- In ED, select the com port you selected in ComT earlier.
- Select Connected To: Modem (you are lying, I know...)
- Select Connection Control: automatic
- Select OK
- Select Wait.
- Wait for the connection.
Master Player:
- Connect to your ISP.
- Start ComT.
- Select a port that IS NOT the port your modem is on.
- Select the enable button in comT.
- Get the IP of the remote player.
- Start ED.
- Select the type of game you want (advanced, ...)
- Select what map/scen you wish to play (random map, ...)
- For your opponent, select the com port you selected in ComT earlier.
- Select Connected To: Modem (you are lying, I know...)
- Select Connection Control: automatic
- Select OK
- Select Dial.
- Enter the IP address of the Remote player.(as if it was the phone number)
- You are ready to play.
Now this MAY work with more than one opponent, with other opponents at
other comT enabled ports. Roto says Mason Reed said ED crashed with more than one opponent,
but this is unconfirmed as of yet. Please let us know if you are able to
get it running with more than one.
The live ED guys are hoping some of you will join their
competition/ladder. 'Nuff said there.
Remember that comT is shareware. I do believe the registration
info is included in the help section of the program.
Look forward to playing you online,
--Mark
